Upper School University & Career Counselor

Dwight School Seoul seeks a full time Upper School University & Career Counselor to cover our current Director of University & Career Counseling who will be on maternity leave starting August 2026 for one academic year. Candidates should have working knowledge and experience supporting students coming from a diverse range of backgrounds in an IB World School. The ideal candidate has worked in an international school, with a background supporting IB Diploma applicants to top end universities in the USA, Europe and Asia. Applicants should be fluent in English and a masters degree is preferred. Working knowledge of Korea and/or having worked with Asian students is an advantage. The ideal candidate possesses Digital competency, including familiarity with university/college admissions databases management such as Maialearning, Naviance, SCOIR, or Cialfo. This position offers career advice to students and families and is capable of delivering workshops and leads college counseling conferences at Dwight. Candidates should be collaborative and willing to lead by example.

REQUIRED SKILLS/ABILITIES 

  • Excellent communication skills, including both written and public speaking;
  • Strong organizational skills to meet deadlines and the ability to function well under pressure with strict time constraints;
  • High emotional intelligence and empathy, including the ability to create responsive, thoughtful, and collaborative relationships with students, parents, and colleagues;
  • Strong interpersonal skills and experience in counseling, especially with a lens towards college and university admissions
  • Digital competency, including familiarity with university/college admissions databases management such as Maialearning, Naviance, SCOIR, or Cialfo;
  • Flexibility, sensitivity to confidential material, good humor, and a team spirit are necessary for working within a dynamic UCC environment.
  • Ability to help support writing university/college essays and teacher recommendations/letters;
  • Willingness to work some evenings and weekends;
  • A strong interest in professional development and relationship building within the school community and the counseling profession.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • A bachelor’s degree at minimum, a master’s degree preferred;
  • Minimum of 2 years of college counseling experience or university admissions experience preferred.
