Each year, Dwight School Seoul ushers in the festive season with schoolwide events that strengthen community bonds and support charitable initiatives. This year’s celebrations opened with a vibrant two-night production of Beauty and the Beast JR, uniting students, families, and staff through the magic of musical theatre.
Held on December 5–6, 2025, in the school’s main auditorium, the performance brought a beloved classic to life in a way that highlighted the remarkable talents of Dwight’s young artists. More importantly, it demonstrated the power of experiential learning an essential element of the Dwight and IB educational philosophy.
Student-Led Creativity at Its Best
From script interpretation and character development to staging, choreography, and production coordination, students led every phase of the show. Their creativity, collaboration, and initiative were evident throughout the process, reflecting the depth of learning that happens when students take ownership of their work.
School representatives emphasized that the production served as a practical expression of the International Baccalaureate (IB) model, which prioritizes developing well-rounded learners. The experience strengthened core IB Learner Profile attributes, such as being Risk-Takers, Communicators, and Balanced Individuals, while offering meaningful opportunities for personal growth beyond traditional academics.
Learning Beyond the Classroom
Participating in a large-scale artistic production allowed students to step outside the conventional classroom environment. Through teamwork, communication, and real-time problem-solving, they built confidence, strengthened peer connections, and discovered new dimensions of their abilities.
“These experiential learning initiatives are designed to give students meaningful opportunities beyond the textbook,” shared a school official. “We will continue to integrate schoolwide events that complement academic excellence while promoting holistic development in line with the IB philosophy.”
A Commitment to Developing Global Leaders
As an IB World School offering the full IB continuum, Dwight School Seoul remains dedicated to nurturing diverse talents and preparing students to thrive as globally minded citizens. Events like Beauty and the Beast JR reflect this commitment celebrating the arts, fostering leadership, and showcasing the transformative power of an IB education.
